During my Authorship class on Preston Sturges and Billy Wilder, I was required to write multiple papers on the works of both filmmakers. By immersing myself in the Hollywood of the 30's, 40's and 50's, I not only studied the films produced during that period, but the attitudes and events which inspired them. By the last day of class, I had a newfound appreciation for both filmmakers, and understood the lenses through which film experts analyze classic American Cinema.
I didn't know much going in to this class, but now I consider Wilder's "The Apartment" to be my favorite film. I can't think of another movie that comes as close to perfection as it does.
