How To Be A Man was inspired by my experiences with machismo, or hyper masculinity, within the Latino community. It is also my first award-winning film, it won Best Documentary at the Our Voices Youth Film Festival in Vancouver, Canada.

I wanted to make the piece more general in terms of who the audience was so the co-director and I decided to make the topic broader because of just how important this message was and still is. Personally, I was tired of seeing this idea that men cant feel emotions perpetuated by society and in mainstream media at the time, so I decided to make a short documentary on the experiences that men face and have to deal with when grappling with these issues.
