This artifact is a leadership activity from ED 674 in which I supported a school in planning and implementation of a schoolwide climate initiative to promote a sense of belonging for all students in the first Quarter of the 2019-2020 school year. The initiative assigns each student to a “House Color” created by a mix of grade-level students and teachers. They meet with their “house” once a month to participate in team building and Social Emotional Learning activities. This ongoing initiative reminds me of PSEL Standard 3A because it ensures that each student is treated fairly and respected for their diversity in order to create a safe space for the members to feel a sense of belonging. As the standard goes on to say, this activity will also prepare students to be contributing members of our diverse global society.
